Riding Lessons

How early should I show up for my lesson?

For beginner riders who are taking a 30 minute private lesson, arrive at your scheduled lesson time. You will receive 15 minutes of learning to groom and tack the horse and 30 minutes of riding time. For riders who are taking a semi private or group lesson and with approval from your instructor, arrive 30 minutes before your scheduled lesson to groom and tack your horse independently.

Do you have any age or weight restrictions?

We teach riders age 4 and older. Weight is restricted to 175 lbs or less. Upon scheduling your trial lesson, please provide your age, height and weight so we can match you to an appropriate horse.

How much do lessons cost?

Monthly Lesson Memberships

Starting at $360/month for one weekly lesson on a lesson horse 


New Rider Trial Lesson: $75

Required prior to enrollment in a monthly membership

What forms of payment do you accept?

For the first trial lesson, we accept cash, check, venmo or credit card. Trial lesson is $75. After signing up for a Membership, tuition is charged on a debit or credit card as a monthly recurring payment.

Where do I go when I arrive at Roxbury?

Drive in the gate to the right and then left to the barn on the hill. 

What should I bring or wear to my lesson?

Please wear riding pants and paddock boots with half chaps or tall boots. We have helmets to borrow for the first lesson.  Wear a close fitting shirt with short or long sleeves, tucked in.  Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. 


Pony Club

Who is Pony Club for?

Pony Club is for riders ages 7 and up who want to develop strong horsemanship skills and a deeper understanding of horse care - both in and out of the saddle.

Do you need to own a horse?

No. Horse ownership is not required. Roxbury offers suitable horses and ponies for Pony Club participation. 

How often does the Pony Club meet?

Pony Club meets once per month on a Saturday afternoon at Roxbury for unmounted education, and a few special offsite clinics per year.

What do riders learn at the unmounted meetings?

Riders learn essential horsemanship skills, including but not limited to:


* Horse Care & Stable Management

* Lunging and Ground Handling

* Trailering Safety

* Horse Anatomy & Conformation

* Health, Soundness & First Aid

* Nutrition & Feeding

* Tack & Equipment Knowledge

* Life Skills: Leadership, Organization & Teamwork


All instruction follows United States Pony Club curriculum and testing standards. 

Where do Pony Club members compete?

Pony Club offers unique team competitions that test both horsemanship knowledge and riding ability, emphasizing teamwork, preparation, and correct riding and horse care. These competitions are held locally.

How do members track their progress?

Progress is tracked through Pony Club Certifications, which evaluate riding skills and horse management knowledge. Riders advance through the levels at their own pace with instructor guidance. 

How much does Pony Club cost?

Total cost for 2026 is $345.  This covers membership, region dues, and the monthly unmounted meetings.  Competitions and Ratings are optional and additional cost.


Half Leasing

Who is a half lease best suited for?

Half leases are ideal for riders who want more consistency, faster progress, and a dedicated partnership with one horse, without the full commitment of ownership. 

How many days per week does a half lease include?

Half lessees are scheduled to ride three days per week. Ride days are coordinated by the trainer to maintain consistency and fairness for the horse and may include two lessons and one independent ride, or three lessons weekly.

Can half lessees compete at shows?

Yes. Half lessees may compete at shows with trainer approval. Show schedules, divisions, and expectations are determined by the trainer to ensure the best experience for horse and rider. 

What costs are included in a half lease?

Routine care and training of the horse are included. Show fees, entry fees, hauling, grooming, and other show-related expenses are the responsibility of the lessee.
