LESSON PROGRAM
Roxbury Riding Club offers a structured lesson program designed to develop confident, capable riders through correct horsemanship, clear instruction, and thoughtful progression. Lessons emphasize strong fundamentals, safety, and long-term skill development both in and out of the saddle.
Our program supports riders in hunters, jumpers, and equitation, whether their goals include showing or simply becoming more educated, effective horsemen.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Lessons at Roxbury Riding Club are intentionally structured to support steady improvement and rider accountability. Instruction focuses on correct flatwork, balanced position, effective aids, and age-appropriate skill development, with jumping introduced and progressed thoughtfully based on rider readiness.
WHO THIS PROGRAM IS FOR

This program is not designed for casual or drop-in riding.
LESSON STRUCTURE
Lessons may include a combination of:
Lesson formats and progression are determined by rider level, experience, and long-term goals.

HORSE CARE & HORSEMANSHIP
Roxbury Riding Club places strong emphasis on horsemanship as an essential part of rider education. Students are expected to participate in appropriate horse care activities and develop an understanding of grooming, tacking, cooling out, and basic stable management.
This approach builds responsibility, confidence, and respect for the horse as a partner.
EXPECTATIONS & PROGRESSION
Progression within the lesson program is based on demonstrated skill, consistency, and readiness. Riders are encouraged to develop patience, accountability, and a strong foundation before advancing.
This philosophy supports long-term success, safety, and rider confidence.
TRANSITIONING BEYOND LESSONS
Riders may remain in the lesson program long-term or transition into leasing, training, or showing as goals evolve.
There is no pressure to advance before a rider is ready - progression is based on skill, consistency, and individual readiness.

"Katie teaches with a perfect blend of positive reinforcement, encouragement, and humor. She focuses on horsemanship and cares a lot for both the riders and their horses. She is extremely knowledgeable and is an excellent rider. My daughter has progressed so much in one year, and loves lessons, Pony Club, going to horse shows, and her barn family."
-Diana Samac, Parent of rider

"My daughter has been riding with Katie since 2022. She is a wonderful trainer who truly cares for her students and horses, bringing positivity and humor to every lesson. She teaches horsemanship and riding from the ground up, strengthening the horse–rider bond. Pony Club has been a wonderful addition for learning horse care and building lifelong friendships. "
-Danya Smith, Parent of rider
