Roxbury Riding Club offers full and partial training for horse owners and serious riders who value consistency, correct fundamentals, and thoughtful progression. Each program is tailored to the individual horse and rider, with an emphasis on long-term soundness, rideability, and confidence both at home and in competition. Roxbury Riding Club’s training program is led by owner and head trainer Katie Emmermann, who brings over 25 years of experience developing hunters, jumpers, and equitation horses through correct horsemanship and thoughtful, systematic training.
Our training philosophy prioritizes:
* Correct flatwork as the foundation for jumping
* Progressive, age-appropriate development
* Long-term soundness and rideability
* Clear communication between horse, rider, and trainer
This approach produces confident, correct horses and riders without sacrificing welfare, longevity, or mental soundness.
The training program is best suited for:
* Horse owners or committed leasers
* Riders seeking professional rides in addition to lessons
* Clients with competition goals or long-term development plans
* Riders who value structure, accountability, and clear expectations
* Horses requiring consistent training for confidence and correctness
Training clients may participate in:
* Local schooling shows
* Regional circuits
* A-rated competitions
Training programs are designed to support showing, but show participation is not required. Readiness is determined collaboratively based on horse development, rider goals, and overall consistency - not a fixed timeline.
Training availability is limited to maintain program quality.
Interested riders are encouraged to submit a training inquiry including:
* Rider experience and goals
* Horse age, breed and current level
* Desired training option (full or partial)
* Competition goals, if applicable

"Katie has been riding and training horses at my ranch since 2009. She is a reliable, talented and knowledgeable trainer who truly listens to each horse, riding them as individuals and producing soft, supple and happy horses."
-Stacie Bunkowski, Ranch Owner

"I have had Katie training my horses and myself for the past 13 years. Katie is extremely patient with young horses, and genuinely enjoys working with them. I always see positive results after Katie has worked my horse; my horse is becoming more supple and accepting of contact."
-Bobbi Laurens, rider
